Repowering: LIPA needs to make a priority out of making older, dirtier plants cleaner and more efficient. Repowering significantly reduces pollution and increases the energy we produce on Long Island. If we repowered all our existing plants we could double the energy generated on Long Island. We wouldn’t need another power plant.
Conservation: LIPA needs to be creative and serious about
educating Long Islanders about energy choices, energy efficient appliances, and energy saving programs offered to Long Island residents. There’s always room for more conservation.
Renewable Energy: LIPA must make a commitment to the idea that all new power must come from renewable sources like wind, solar voltaic, and geothermal. We need to stop burning fossil fuels. LIPA should also publicize it's programs to provide incentives for residential solar panels as well as educate developers on the cost effective benefits of energy efficient technology. |
